Us for Them- Week 2

Can you name a believer who is known for their love? How have they cultivated God’s love in their heart? How has their love affected their witness?

Jesus expects and equips his followers to transform more into his love over a lifetime. But often, the church thinks that transformation is optional or that transformation will be quick and easy. It’s also easy to think that transformation just requires more rules or disciplines. But these myths lead to a false Christianity and a powerless church.

Instead, transformation requires a wholehearted surrender to everything to Jesus’ salvation and authority. We must also invite the Holy Spirit to be at work in our hearts, soul, mind, and strength. This work of God is seen in our lives in the fruit of the Spirit and in the use of spiritual gifts. This transformation is slow work over a lifetime.

Discussion Questions

  1. Have you believed one of the myths about transformation? Which one?
  2. Are you sensing an invitation to surrender something in your life?

Practice

2 Corinthians 3 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Go around the group and allow people to share what has been essential in their own transformation. What groups of people have been part of the transformation? What rhythm of repentance? What moments have moved

them? Is God asking anyone to surrender a part of their lives to His direction? If anyone attended Encounter Night, encourage them to share their experience. Praise God for the work that He has done and is still doing in the lives of each of your group members.

Closing

Pray over the members of your group, for continued transformation, for growth in love.
