Overview

Us For Them- Week 4

Share stories of times when people in the local church have met your needs and enabled your faith. Take a moment to share times when you have participated in doing that for others.

Through Jesus’ authority, we participate in the divine nature, to live with God now and forever. Through that life and authority, we are to be disciples of Jesus and make other disciples for the sake of our neighbors and the nations. This will require that we learn the way of Jesus. The local church, our spiritual community, is where we learn, relearn, and practice everything that Jesus teaches.

It’s tempting to give ourselves a pass on serving our church family. We might think that they should serve us instead. We might assume that we aren’t needed. We might think we are only called to serve one another if it’s convenient. But these excuses enable an immature or false Christianity. It takes work to serve people, especially difficult ones, but it is the path to the kingdom.

Discussion Questions

  1. How are ways that you are serving the church?
  2. Is God inviting you into some form of service?

Practice

Matthew 28 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[b] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have

given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Read the Scripture out loud and then reflect as a group on the following questions. Have you committed to being a disciple of Jesus, someone who learns to live as He lived? Where is this evident in your life?

Are you taking other people along with you, making disciples as you go? As people are baptized into the church, where are you participating in helping them learn and relearn the ways of Jesus?

If the people in your group are already serving in the church, share where you are serving and pray over one another. If they are not, consider if you could serve together as a group.

Closing

Pray over one another’s serving positions and for discernment in where God is inviting you into His work.
